What is love?
According to www.dictionary.com some of the definitions of “love” are:-
- a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person
- a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend
- a person toward whom love is felt; beloved person; sweetheart.
Although there were many more definitions and websites that explore the meaning of love, to be honest it’s not very easily defined.
If you think about all the relationships you’ve had, or are having, I’m sure you will be able to recall all the different types of love that you have experienced yourself.
We’re not talking about the buying diamonds, jetting off to the Bahamas, sweeping you off your feet kind of love, though some of you may have already had the pleasure of this experience…but I’m talking about the warm feeling of being loved, cared for, thought of, prayed for, and missed.
There are so many stages of love in our life, our first experience of love comes from our parents, with the hugs, kisses and support and without actually realising it they set the benchmark and its only as we grow we begin to notice other peoples relationships and start comparing.
When you first find love it can be a whirlwind of a rollercoaster, the relationship is like the most expensive gift you could have ever imagined. Then as you open the ribbons, gently unfold it, you experience different emotions at each stage… yes it’s all love but there are so many degrees to this. By the time you reach the core of the gift you are in a completely different place from when you started!
Love is about sharing, caring, about giving to others, about being honest and diplomatic at the same time… we all need love in our lives, whether it’s from a partner, a friend, parent, sibling it’s that feeling of being part of a bond that will always be there, and yes it’s not always easy but it’s there like a magical cloak of comfort we can wrap around us when we need to.. and my prayer is that we all have the experience and support of love in whichever form it may come to our door.
With all this talk about love and the giving and sharing of it I think someone has been missed…there is one person who deserves a constant flow of unconditional love, kindness, patience, forgiveness and understanding and that is… You….
Self-love is the first step of your journey to loving others, so have positive thoughts, speak from the heart, be kind to yourself – remember the longest relationship you will ever have is the one with yourself.. so enjoy being you…
I wanted to share this quote, for you to ponder on .. it’s from a beautifully written and illustrated book by the most inspirational author Louise Hay, it’s called “Heart Thoughts- A treasury of inner wisdom”
“One of the bonuses of loving yourself and
loving others is that it makes you feel so good”
